How to Make Paper Cut Out Art using Illustrator

In this fun tutorial, we are creating a paper cut out art illusion. For this project, we will use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Let the fun begins.

Step 1
Open a new document in Illustrator, size 1000tp x 1000tp. With pencil tool, stoke on black, draw the shape. It doesn't matter which shape you choose. Draw two more small shapes. Make a rectangular, size 1000tp x 1000tp and aligns in the middle.
Step 2
Select all shapes and the rectangular, flip stroke, and fill so that your shapes are all black. Now we will combine shapes using the Shape Builder tool. Click on each shape individual. Your shapes should look something like this.
With the Eyedropper tool change shapes color. Because I want to recreate the ocean effect I chose shades of blue color, where the dark blue is in the smallest shape to give the illusion of dept. You can choose whatever color you want.
Step 3
Select all the shapes, go to Effect - Stylize - Drop Shadow set the Mode to Multiply, Opacity 50%, X offset: 15pt, Y offset: 15pt, Blur: 5 pt.
Step 4
Go to File - Place, and upload any sea animal. In this project, I am using jellyfish that I draw, you can download png file here. I will apply some drop shadows to my jellyfish, but if you download my png file you don't have to do that part. Resize and place your sea creature in the middle of the shaps.
Step 5
We are done with Illustrator. We only need to save the artwork, properly, so that we can open in Photoshop. Go to File - Export - Export for screen and should a pop-up screen like this, and set your settings like on a picture below.
Step 6
In this final step, we will add some texture. Go to Photoshop and open your artwork, add Solid color, dark grey, right-click, and select Convert to Smart Object. Go to Filter - Noise - Add Noise and add the amount of 20%. Set the blending mode to Soft Light.

And that is it for this tutorial. Thanks for reading the article I hope you liked it, and we'll read on in the next one. 😀😀
