In this tutorial, we will try to recreate the realistic Cracked Skin Effect in Photoshop. Let the fun begins.
Strep 1
Open in Photoshop the image you want to use for this tutorial, click on file - place embedded to upload the crack image that you can download for free on the source file. Resize and rotate the image so that fits nicely on a face, change the blending mode to multiply. In my case, I want to add some effect on a neck as well so I duplicate the image.
Step 2
Add a layer mask to the crack layer and with a soft brush, set on black color, paint over the places that you don't wont to have the crack effect.
Step 3
Add the levels adjustment layer, click on a clipping mask so that levels apply only on the crack layer. Move the white point slider to about 153. Go back to the crack layer mask and with brush erase small bits from the face especially the mouth and eyes area.
Step 4
Add the hue/saturation adjustment layer, move the saturation slider to -20. Add a new layer, merge all layers using shortcuts, press and hold the SHIFT key + CTRL + ALT + E. This will make a stamp of all layers this is a non-destructive way to merge layers. With a Quick Selection Tool select IRIS of both eyes so that we can change the color of the eyes. Hold Ctrl + J to make a copy of the eyes in a new layer.
Step 5
Add the hue/saturation adjustment layer, move the saturation slider to + 83, and the hue slider to + 12 or you can play with colors and choose a different color. Add clipping mask so that we apple color only on the eye layer.
Step 6
Add the color lookup adjustment layer - 3DLUT file - Foggy Night 3DL, blend mode - Hue and reduce the opacity to around 50%.
Step 7
Add the curves adjustment layer to brighten the image.
Step 8
Add another curves adjustment layer this time in 'S' shape to add some dramatic look and some contrast.
And that's it, folks we are done. In a few simple steps, you can turn a boring portrait into a spooky fun zombie artwork. Thanks for reading the article I hope you liked it, and we’ll read on in the next one.😅😅
