How To Create a 3D Instagram Photo Frame Effect

In this fun tutorial, we are creating a 3D photo frame to WOW your friends. We need a screenshot of your Instagram page, and make sure that you have one picture and text on a bottom so you can write some message. Then some images that you want you to use for this project and background. Let the fun begin.

Step 1

Make a new document, 1080-1080 px, resolution 150 pi. Go to File - Place Embedded and select your Instagram screenshot. Resize the image and make sure that you have text at the bottom of the page. Next, we will get rid of the image on the top. Make a copy of the layer, right-click, and select Rasterize layer. Take a Rectangular Marquee tool and select the image. -Tip- Sometimes it is difficult to make a whole selection at once. Make sure that the marquee tool is selected, make a selection, right-click, and click on Transform Selection. Now you can freely move selection in all directions. When you are happy with the selection press enter and delete.

Step 2

Take a Rectangle tool and make a rectangle on the place where it was an image that we erase. Go to File - Place Embedded and select an image of your subject. Mask the subject out, (how to mask the object in Photoshop), and set it so that one part, or more, of the image, stick out.

Step 3

Now, using the Rectangular Marquee tool select the part that you want to mask(the part that will be 3D). Make sure that color is set on black and paint with a brush inside of a selection. The reason why we use selection to mask is that we could draw a straight line and not have to worry whether we accidentally erase that we don't want to.

Step 4

Go to File - Place Embedded and choose the background image. Make sure that the background layer is on top of the rectangle layer, right-click, and choose make a clipping mask. Go to Filter - Blur - Gaussian Blur, radius 3,2 px. Add a new layer, make sure that is under the subject layer, rename into shadow. Take a soft brush, color black, set opacity around 14%, and paint over the finger. That creates the illusion of shadow.

Step 5

In this final step, we are creating text and adding your logo, profile picture... We want to use the part of the screenshot that has your profile picture, logo, name ... Make a copy of the Instagram screenshot layer, move on the top all layers. We want to place your name on the top of the picture so that it looks like it is the real Instagram feed. Reduce opacity so you can see where to place the layer. With the Marquee tool select part of the image that you want to keep and click on the add layer mask. If you want to hide some text draw a white rectangle and placet it on top of the text. On top of that rectangle, you can add some new text.

And that is it for this tutorial. Thanks for reading the article I hope you liked it, and we'll read on in the next one. 😇😇
