In this tutorial, we will use the Color Range to change the background. This is the best method when we need selections and the subject is complex with lots of holes, but a uniform color behind it.
To use the Color Range to do selection in Photoshop go to Select - Color Range. When the dialogue box pops up choose the left Eyedropper tool. Click on the background, choose the most common color closes to the subject. Notice the window in Color Range shows some bits of white. Those are the selected areas.
Click the eyedropper that has a + next to it. Drag this across the background to add to the selection. Feel free to click multiple times as we want as much of the sky color as possible to select. Slide the fuzziness slider to refine the selection and get our subject nice and black and the background white. click Inverse and OK.
Add a layer mask and add a picture of different backgrounds that you wish to replace with.
And the job is done, in just a few steps we were able to replace the background.
