In today’s tutorial, I will show you how you can make a graphic portrait using Photoshop in just a few steps. Let the fun begins.
Step 1
Open a new document in Photoshop, create height and width of 1000 pixels with a resolution of 300 PI. Go to File - Place Embedded and open up the Color Strip Line Pattern png, you can download yours here. Change the blending mode to Luminocity, lower the opacity and the fill to around 30%. Change the color background to brown color (b02f1c). Open the image you want to use in this project in a new window. Then you have to separate the background from the object and change it the background color to white. You can see here how to do that.
Step 2
Go to the portrait image window that you want to use for this project, Next, go to Image - Adjustments - Threshold leave the threshold level to default, 128.
Next, go to Image - Color Range, and with eyedropper pick, the white color in the background, click Ok We made a selection of the black parts. Unlock the image layer and press Delete on your keyboard to remove all whites parts in the image. Deselect the image by pressing Ctrl + D. Drag and drop the image in the working window with our brown background. Resize the image.
Using the Marquee tool click and draw a selection around the subject. Below the subject layer create a new layer. Change color to beige (efdbc1). With the Paint bucket tool fill the selection.
Step 4
Using the Type tool type some text. The size and font of the text are up to you. Place your text in the beige rectangle. Aline all layers to the middle of the background.
Next, we need to make a selection of the text. You can do that by pressing Ctrl and clicking on the text thumbnail. Hide the text layer and make the border layer (beige rectangle) active, press the Delete key. Do the same steps for the image as well.
Step 5
In this last step, we are going to add some depth to the image by adding a Drop shadow. Go to FX icon and chose Drope Shadow, set the blending mode to Normal set the Opacity to 55%, Angel to 90, check the use Global light, set the Distance to 27, Spread to O and the Size to 21.
And that's it, in just a few steps you can turn a portrait image into an interesting graphic portrait. Thanks for reading the article I hope you liked it, and we’ll read on in the next one. 😀😀
